Welcome back, degenerates. Another season of the VIDL is upon us, which means another sixteen-plus weeks of watching grown men with mortgages and, in some cases, children who depend on them, lose their goddamn minds over whether Jaxson Dart should've flexed in over a bye-week corpse. Week 1 is always a lie detector test nobody passes, and this week the machine caught fire, threw sparks, and pointed directly at Blue42, who put up a positively embarrassing 71.26 points and take home the LOW SCORER belt in a landslide nobody wanted to win. That's not a fantasy score, that's a blood pressure reading. That's the number on the thermostat in a Motel 6 in February. Somewhere in that lineup a bench player was crying tears of relief.
Let's start where the games were actually close, because God knows it didn't stay that way for long. The CLOSEST GAME of the week saw 4th & Long slither past English Invasion, 141.12 to 131.9, a 9.22-point margin that felt less like a football game and more like two guys fighting over the last chicken wing while both of them are already stuffed. English Invasion started BOTH Trevor Lawrence (34.1) and Jaxson Dart (32.6) at quarterback like some kind of two-headed quarterback science experiment gone almost-right, and still choked it away. That's the fantasy equivalent of ordering two entrees and still leaving hungry.
Next up, Farve Farve Away throttled The Juice Is Loose! 147.04 to 125.08, a 21.96-point beatdown made extra cruel by the fact The Juice Is Loose! got a monster 39.66 from Josh Allen and it STILL wasn't enough, because Farve Farve Away's Bryce Young (37.44) and Kenneth Walker (31.1) turned this into a two-man wrecking crew. Sometimes you bring a knife to a gunfight. Sometimes you bring a gun to a gunfight and the other guy brought a tank.
Then Old Sparky's fried Fat Tire 131.22 to 102.36, a 28.86-point gap, and look, congrats on the win, Old Sparky's, but I need to talk about your roster hygiene, because you also WAIVER DROPPED Tahj Brooks this week, a man whose entire NFL career you apparently decided to evaluate and terminate in Week 1 like some overzealous middle manager doing layoffs before the holiday party. Bold strategy. We'll see how that ages.
After that, One-Eyed Wonder Weasels curb-stomped Moose Knuckles 125.68 to 77.68, a 48-point massacre that should get Moose Knuckles' GM a wellness check. Seventy-seven points in Week 1 isn't a rebuild, it's a confession.
And then we arrive at the carnage. Beer'n Brats put up the HIGH SCORER total of the entire week, an absolutely obscene 171.94, mostly off the back of Caleb Williams (41.26) and D'Andre Swift (31.4), and buried WANIGAS 171.94 to 95.76, a 76.18-point annihilation that qualifies less as a fantasy matchup and more as a hostage situation. WANIGAS should send flowers. Maybe a fruit basket. Maybe just a note that says "I'm sorry, I'll do better" pinned to a dartboard with their own name on it.
But the BIGGEST BLOWOUT, the main event, the reason we're all here — JMoney demolished poor Blue42 150.54 to 71.26, a 79.28-point disembowelment powered by Derrick Henry's 34.3. Blue42 didn't lose a fantasy game, they got mugged in broad daylight while a crowd watched and did nothing.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK goes to Caleb Williams, who dropped 41.26 for Beer'n Brats and made every other GM who benched a rookie QB this preseason feel like a complete idiot, which, correctly, they are.
SHIT LIST: Blue42, obviously, for the 71.26 mercy-killing, and Old Sparky's for dropping Tahj Brooks the same week they won by 28 — nothing says "I don't trust my own success" quite like torching a roster spot mid-victory-lap.
No standings yet, but mark my words: somebody in this league is currently feeling like a genius after Week 1, and I promise you, by Week 8, that same man will be drunk-texting the group chat about strength of schedule. Buckle up, fellas. It's gonna be a long, dumb, glorious year.
